I don't think you can register a domain to two individuals. You should use a trading name and use that - ie. whatever name you plan to trade under.
You don't have to formally register the name as long as you are happy to trade as a partnership rather than a limited liability company. Whatever name you choose, that's the name to register the domain with - you should think about drawing up a document which you both sign to say that you paid equal halves to purchase the domain - both keep a copy, and you are sorted...

Try GoDaddy - you also get great tech support and almost 100% uptime (I won't say 100%, but I've never found one of my sites down). http://www.godaddy.com/

I just posted this to another question but it might also be relevant to your question:

You can start a domain name registration service and full web hosting service straight away and for free at http://www.DomainNameReseller.tk

This comes with a ready made website under your own brand and you can have your own domain name hosted for free. You choose the domain name registration prices and web hosting plans and prices.

Your domain name and web hosting reseller site will look something like this http://domainregistration.duoservers.com

You might also try another free brandable domain name reseller program at http://internetdomain.partnersite.myorderbox.com/

Good luck!

As an experienced webmaster I recommend take a look at:
http://bluehost-service.atspace.com
I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. If you had any question just email me.

Domain Registering is the purchase of the domain name through a registrar(like GoDaddy, IX Webhosting, or any other domain registrar). Domain hosting is where the website would be posted to so it can be seen on the internet.

If you already have a domain name, (Ex: mychurch.com), then you have control over that site as long as you pay the yearly registration fee through your registrar. You can go through where the domain name was registered to view a control panel.

A Host will charge you either by the month or year for the use of space on their server. Watch out for "Free" hosts. I've seen a lot of down time with those. Normally, you can use either your internet provider as a host(they should have this option. You just need to ask), or you can go through GoDaddy and pay their fees.

You don't need to pay for web hosting service. Just register a domain name.

Don’t trust any cheap service, many of them don’t allow you to have full control on your domain name. If you’re going to buy domain names, http://www.goldpuma.com is the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you ($ 9.99 /year). They offer free extras with every domain name:

Quick Blogcast
Hosting with Web site builder
Personalized Email Account
Starter Web Page For Sale/ Parked Page
Domain Forwarding
Domain Masking
100-Pack Email Forwarding
Total DNS Control
Change of Registration
Status Alerts
Domain Locking
…

Good Luck!
